Are low carb diets safe? How safe is Atkins diet? They are low carb and Atkins diets dangerous to your health? These are burning questions for dieters all over the world.

Personally, I tried low carb diets and Atkins diet and the diet you lose weight quickly. However, not only to lose body fat, weight, I also lost muscle mass. I had a very clear loss of muscle and fat, because you can see my reduced muscle mass in the mirror.

This is definitely not healthy. In addition, the more muscle mass, you lose, the less toned your body shape. The end result is that it will end like the thin and flabby with lose skin.

The frustrating part is that after you have low carb or Atkins diet, you will very likely get back all the weight you have lost and more. The reason is that your muscles are active and are constantly burning calories. Given that the less you have less muscle mass now, your body metabolism, or the ability to burn calories slows down immensely.

In other words, when you put on weight once you put on body fat instead of muscle, if not. These will be fatter and less healthy than before you went on a low carb or Atkins diet. To compound matters, due to less muscle tissue, which leads to lower metabolism, and thus fewer calories being burned, you will be thicker.

Since then, I remain almost as low carb and Atkins diet. Both types of diets are almost similar, because they require you to cut down drastically on your consumption of carbohydrates. Atkins diet has gone a step further to promote almost any carbohydrate consumption for 2 weeks before adding some carbs to your meals gradually.

In addition to loss of muscle as safe as low-carb diet? This is what Dr. Dr. Lyn Steffen and Jennifer Nettleton of the University of Minnesota School of Public Health commented in the Lancet report, “Low carbohydrate diets for weight management are far from healthy, given their association with ketosis, constipation or diarrhea, odor of mouth, headache and general fatigue to name a few. ”

Doctors warned that the diet increases the protein load affects the kidneys and the balance of acids in the body. This also leads to loss of minerals from bone stores and affect bone strength. Doctors then said that “it is our most important criterion should be indisputable safety, and low carbohydrate diets are not currently capable of this scale.”

Dr Atkins, creator of the Atkins diet died in 2003 after he was allegedly having slipped on ice and fatally injured his head. However, his medical report stated that it had in the past, heart attack, hypertension and congestive heart failure.

Was Dr Atkins medical conditions related to his low carbohydrate diet is someone to guess. To take risks by going to low-carb diet? I do not think that I will. If I ever wanted to lose weight again, I prefer to go to the best methods of healthy eating and regular exercise instead of jumping on any FAD diet.

  1. Oh, my is that ever the truth! I lost 60 lbs on the Atkins, then, once I felt that it was enough, I started to eat again. Just normal, heathy foood, but my weight just came back so quickly. I was devastated. Now I know better. Just eating healthy and excercising. That’s what works for me.
